El cultivo del olivo y la producción de aceite han sido muy
importantes en el paisaje, cultura y economía del Somontano
Hay algo más de 3.000 Hectáreas
cultivadas de olivar, (un 6% de la superficie cultivada). Es un olivar tradicional, con una antigüedad superior a 80
años, de secano, y cultivado en pequeñas parcelas con baja densidad de
plantación.
En la actualidad existen en el Somontano 5 almazaras de tipo empresarial, gestionadas por sociedades de vecinos y que desempeñan un papel muy importante para mantener el cultivo tradicional del olivo
El sector del aceite tiene un gran potencial como factor de
desarrollo de la comarca, por lo que desde finales de 2004 , la Comarca de Somontano de Barbastro
y el Centro de Desarrollo del Somontano, comenzaron a trabajar unidos para
potenciar el cultivo del olivo y la industria del aceite.

LEADER PLUS realizó algunas actuaciones con el capítulo de fondos dedicados a
la valorización de las producciones agrarias, y otras las ejecutó con
un proyecto de cooperación que se denominó “Vinoleum:
valor mediterráneo” que se realizó en colaboración con otras asociaciones que
trabajaban en el desarrollo de territorios rurales de otras Comunidades Autónomas.
Estas actuaciones se prolongaron hasta el final del programa
LEADER PLUS en el año 2008.
Se realizaron acciones formativas, dinamización de las
almazaras, jornadas de intercambio profesional, actuaciones para la
valorización turística del sector......
A lo largo de los cuatro años se invirtieron 111.649 € de subvención
pública

THE OLIVE TREE AND THE OLIVE OIL IN THE
SOMONTANO’S REGION:
Olive farming and the production of oil
have been very important for the landscape, culture and economy of the
Somontano’s region.
There are more than 3,000 hectares with
olive grove. It is a six per cent of
grown area. The existing one is traditional, of dryland farming and and grown
in small plots with a low farming density. It counts with more than 80 years
old.
Nowadays, there are five corporative
oil mills, what means that from 2004, the Somontano’s region and the Somontano’s
Development Center, started to work together to strengthen the olive tree grown
and the oil industry.
The Somontano’s Development Center,with the LEADER PLUS
PROGRAMME carried out some actions in relationship with the valuation of the
agrarian production dedicated funds. Others, were exectuted with a cooperation
project named “Vinoleum: Mediterranean Value”,
which was done with the help of other associations working in the development
of rural areas in different Autonomous Communities.
These actions lasted until the end of the LEADER PLUS
programme in 2008. Formative activities, or of revitalization of the olive
mills, conferences on professional interchange, actions to put into value the
tourism related to this sector, and many other activities were organised along
this time.
Along the four years 111,649 euros of public subsidy were
invested.
The olive tree and the olive oil are so important for the
region that even a project on tourism connected with the olive oil has been
developped.
